ETL 002: Why the title “Enjoy True Living”?, Q&A–How do I find God?, and Bible Words–“Bible”

Play

Daviditunesbanner3In this episode of The Enjoy True Living Podcast, episode #2, we’re still, obviously, very early in the life of the podcast so we’re taking care of some preliminary things, like why this show has the name it does and also introducing a new segment called, “Bible Words”.

So, here’s what you’ll hear:

Chapter 1: Where did the title “Enjoy True Living” come from.  This is a brief explanation of the name of the podcast and website.  I use a quote from Oscar Wilde, which is: “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, and that is all.”

Primarily, though, my thoughts are prompted by Scripture.  Following are the Scripture references mentioned, in case you might want to look them up for yourself (which I highly recommend–don’t just take my word for this stuff!)

  • John 20:30-31
  • 1 Timothy 6:6, 19
  • Philippians 4:4, 7
  • 2 Corinthians 4:17
  • Psalm 23; 51:7, 10
  • Isaiah 1:18
  • Revelation 2, 3
  • Romans 8:37
  • 1 Corinthians 15:57
  • 1 John 5:13
  • Ephesians 4:20
  • Matthew 11:28-30
  • Acts 4:2; 6:7; 8:4; 12:24; 19:20
  • 1 John 3:14

The qualities of this “true” life are:

  1. Joy
  2. Hope
  3. Contentment
  4. Forgiveness
  5. Victory
  6. Eternal

Chapter 2: This episode’s Bible question is “How do I find God?”  This was relayed to me by a Christian lady who was approached outside the county jail (where she conducts Bible classes with the lady inmates) by a troubled young man.

In answering this question the following Scriptures are referenced:

  • 1 Chronicles 28:9
  • Proverbs 8:17
  • Psalm 19
  • Romans 1:20
  • Exodus 33:13
  • Colossians 1:15
  • Hebrews 1:3
  • John 1:18

Chapter 3: Here we introduce two new segments that will appear in future episodes, one is called “Did You Know?” in which we’ll briefly mention some interesting and probably little known fact about the Bible, its contents, or its teaching.  The other segment is “Bible Words.”  For many people the Bible is unfamiliar territory.  And like anything else it has its own vocabulary.  We’ll look at one new Bible word each week that will help us grow in our familiarity with and understanding of Scripture.

ETL 001 – The Inaugural Episode: Introductions and Answering Questions

Play

Daviditunesbanner150ETL 001: Introducing this new podcast and podcaster, observations on people asking questions, and answering the question, “How do I know when God is talking to me?”

In this episode of The Enjoy True Living Podcast–the inaugural episode–we’ll take care of some necessary introductions.  That means introducing myself as the host, this podcast and how I have it envisioned as we move forward.

So, here’s what you’ll hear:

Chapter 1: Introductions are in order.  This is who I am and this is what this podcast is all about.  I also want you to know where I’m coming from, my vantage point or perspective, if you will.  You can also learn a little more about me, if you were to want to, on the About page of the web site (click HERE).

For all you dog lovers out there, here’s our Bella wondering why we don’t love her favorite past time–playing ball–as much as she does.

Chapter 2: Some observations on the asking of questions.  I’ve spent a lot of time answering people’s questions about the Bible, religion, faith and spirituality over the past 28 years, including several years of formally answering submitted Bible Questions as a part of an annual preaching series.  I’ve come to learn a few things about people and the asking of questions.

  1. People are hesitant to ask questions.
  2. For every person who asks a question, there are several others who have the same question, but have just never asked.
  3. We benefit from the questions of others.
  4. People ask questions for different reasons.
  5. Finally, some people, even many self-professed believers, have no real interest in what the Bible really says.

Chapter 3: The first question we’ll answer is one asked of me recently by a Christian young lady as part of a Bible study: “How do you know if God is talking to you?”
